Childhood

Dr. Ogata was born in Southern California and then raised in Monterey Park. He played basketball and baseball as a kid and was part of the Boy Scouts of America. He even earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Schooling

He began his dental schooling in 1981 where he was a chairside assistant for a dental practice owned by Dr. Ernest Nagamtsu in Los Angeles. He graduated with his Biological Sciences degree in 1985 from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco in 1988.

When he decided to open his own private practice, he wanted it to focus on cosmetic dentistry and giving quality care to all his patients. To him, dental care is not just about teeth. It’s about teaching people how to take care of their oral health and how to keep their health and quality of life. He also thinks having a healthy and happy smile can change the way people view themselves and give them a more wholesome life.

Dr. Ogata relocated to Maui in 1995. He wanted to live here because he believed it could give him a good combination of work and play. His private practice keeps him very busy, so he tends to have more work than play, but he still makes time to do his hobbies including cooking, golf, yoga, and traveling. He has been to many different places around the world including Japan, Latvia, Costa Rica, Canada, Mexico, Russia, and the Philippines among others.
